glacier-fox began with a simple observation: Australia possesses some of the world's most extraordinary walking routes, yet detailed, reliable information about them remains frustratingly scattered. Trail conditions change seasonally, access points shift, and the best experiences often lie off the official maps.

Founded in Brisbane in 2014, we set out to create the definitive resource for Australian wilderness walking. Not generic tourism brochures, but genuine route intelligence developed through boots-on-ground experience.

Our Approach

Every route in our collection has been walked by our team within the past 18 months. We maintain ongoing relationships with park rangers, traditional owners, and local accommodation providers to ensure our information stays current.

When you book with us, you receive far more than a map. You get accumulated knowledge from hundreds of kilometres walked, tested recommendations for every aspect of your journey, and direct access to people who genuinely know these trails.

The Team

Our core team comprises five full-time route specialists, each with distinct regional expertise. Between us, we have walked over 12,000 kilometres of Australian trails and hold qualifications in wilderness first aid, navigation, and environmental interpretation.

We also collaborate with a network of seasonal assessors who provide regular updates on trail conditions, especially during the variable shoulder seasons when conditions can change rapidly.

Our Values

We believe in slow travel. Our routes are designed for immersion rather than speed, with generous time allowances for exploration, photography, and simply being present in remarkable places.

Environmental responsibility underpins everything we do. We follow and advocate Leave No Trace principles, partner with conservation organisations, and actively discourage visits during periods when trails are vulnerable or overcrowded.

We also maintain a commitment to honest assessment. Not every route suits every walker. Part of our role is helping you find the right match and steering you away from experiences that might not meet your expectations or capabilities.

Walk With Us

Whether you are planning your first overnight hike or seeking a month-long traverse, we would be glad to help you find the right path. Our consultations are free and without obligation.
